We all remember the release of the HTC Mogul by Sprint back in June 2007. The HTC Mogul was at the time the latest and greatest WM device to hit a CDMA carrier, packed with Windows Mobile 6 Professional and a slimmer design than the previous pocket pc (Sprint PPC 6700, Verizon VX6700). Time passed and a software update *ROM* was released, but basically only added Music Store capabilities and essentially nothing useful other than a new medium for Sprint to generate profit from its music download service.
Fast forward to October 2007: HTC Mogul gets an update which apparently was a mixup and the new ROM is quickly taken down from HTC’s website. The following statement was issued:
“Sprint and HTC regret any inconvenience customers have recently experienced with the Mogul. HTC is working on a new version of the software ROM for the Mogul which incorporates enhancements for Bluetooth performance and corrects issues that were unintentionally created by ROM version 2.16.651.0 (posted on HTC’s website on October 24). Both Sprint and HTC have begun testing the new software and are targeting to make it available for download by the end of November. ”
So where exactly is EVDO Rev A on the HTC Mogul and where is the GPS capability. We all know that there is no dedicated GPS hardware, but the ability to work with Telenav and similar software would still provide some usefulness to many of the original consumers. When you buy a phone in June and still do not have either of the 2 headline features which played a dominate roll in your purchase time is painful.Â
Presently the Official word is still as it was in November: We will see an update which will address both issues in Q1 2008. Let’s hope that the HTC Touch owners out there recieve a similar update as they were also promised GPS and EVDO Rev A capabilities.
