Sure Apple announced the availability of a 16GB iPhone and 32 GB Touch, but did you honestly think that Windows Mobile, Symbian and similar operating handsets would be left in the dust? I think not and that is exactly where Sandisk has come to the rescue. The 32GB SDHC memory cards had been talked about as far back as June of 2007, but today the details have surfaced as Sandisk decided to announce the pricing and availability of their newest products.
$100 for the 8GB Ultra II Plus March 2008, $180 for the 16GB Ultra II March 2008, and $350 for the 32GB Ultra II April 2008.
Now you might be thinking wow that is expensive and you are correct, but the big picture here is that unlike the iPhone which comes packed with 16GB of storage for $500, with the Sandisk 16GB SDHC storage card you can take your existing handset and match iPhone capacity levels for $180 without buying a new phone. The other important factor to consider is that there is no 32GB iPhone and once the 3rd party retailers get ahold of the Sandisk 8GB, 16GB and 32GB SDHC cards the prices will drop. Storage is cheap and Sandisk will definitley be expecting the sales to match the need for capacity in the mobile market. So if you are considering purchasing an iPhone simply for multimedia storage, take a second look at the 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards coming in March and the 32GB SDHC in April.
