Google Android gets an ARM, Not a Leg

article Nick Marshall

google android“RISC is the future,” Hackers 1995.  If you are lost in the connection between RISC and Google getting an ARM, but not the leg then think ARM architecture: processors.  ARM previously, the Advanced RISC Machineis used in devices ranging from portable mp3 players to mobile phones and this is exactly where Google’s Android fits into the equation.  This Sunday we kick off the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona and word on the street is that ARM will be powering some good ol’ Google Android for all the world to see.  The important pieces of information here are that Google is the overpowering force behind the Open Handset Alliance and that ARM powering Android represents an important component to Google’s success.  By adding more key players to support the Open Handset Alliance and a solid demonstration at the World Mobile Congress this Sunday, Google will be in safe waters come Monday when the stock market opens.  Did I mention Google just launched Google Apps which accomplish nearly every task done by Microsoft Office, but entirely web based and free?
