When Forbes magazine decides to reach its arm out to guide consumers on a cell phone purchase, we should take a listen. According to Forbes.com the eminent 3G iPhone might be coming sooner than expected, but maybe not soon enough for some. The current stance on buying an iPhone is hold off and wait it out a few months with the possibility of the 3G iPhone being released as soon as May of this year. The timeline is scheduled to have a $100 price drop on the iPhone and iPod Touch which would bring the 8GB iPhone down to $299 and the 16GB to $399.

Although I appreciate the information from Forbes.com, I have a different opinion. If in fact there is another price drop on the existing EDGE/Wifi based iPhone go ahead and get your hands on one. With Geohotz releasing the software unlocking for the 1.1.3 iPhone and always the chance to StealthSIM unlock your iPhone, you are not risking much by being an early adopter. The unlocked iPhones will continue to sell for a decent chunk of change in the coming months and in the event that a 3G iPhone was released it would most likely hit the 399 price point if it is released with 8GB of internal memory. In the event that it was released with only 16GB of memory then it would assume the 499 price point. Currently the average selling price of unlocked 8GB iPhones is over $500 on eBay with extreme cases reaching bids over $700 for sellers offering international shipping.
