At the Mobile World Congress today ARM introduced a prototype unit running the Google Android software OS. The big news with Android is not the presentation or razor sharp icons, but the behind the scenes convenience that it provides to developers. Google’s Android delivers a complete application framework which alleviates some of the difficulties involved in programming handsets for different carriers and different handsets within a carrier. The end result is that Google’s Android will improve the time it takes for a handset to reach the market by reducing the time of application development.
