HTC Star Trek says beem me up with WM 6.1

The HTC Star Trek is getting a fair share of press these days after some crafty guys over at xda-developers were able to load a Windows Mobile 6 ROM on the device last week.  This week the guys over at xda-developers have stepped their game up to the next level by loading the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM onto the HTC StarTrek.

So what if the device only runs off 185MHz? If you live for flip phones, but want all the functionality of a smartphone because you live for your MS Exchange email, nobody does it in a smaller and sleeker package.  To add fuel to the fire, Windows Mobile 6.1 is still soon-to-be-released, so running it on an older device is just a beautiful thing.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM for the HTC Star Trek smartphone has been tweaked since clearly the HTC Star Trek is not touch-based and the ROM being used is the Professional edition (designed for pocket pc’s not smartphones).  The directional pad and keys have been mapped to provide touchscreen inputs in place of a finger or a stylus.

The ROM is running very well, but another worthy note is that Erofich from xda-developers has managed to get Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (non-touchscreen) ported to the HTC Star Trek which would definitely be the perfect match for the non-touchscreen Star Trek.

Hop on over to the xda-developers forum for the step-by-step.
