While watching CNBC’s tremendously popular show MAD MONEY with Jim Cramer, he mentioned that this coming year will be the year of the iPhone. He gave reference to the industry a year before the iPod took off and how a year later it was the top selling portable mp3 player on the market. The bigger news on the iPhone has been sourced back to the founder of Digg.com, Kevin Rose, who said today that a 3G iPhone with dual camera’s for video chat will hit the market soon. Specifically an iPhone that will run 3G video chat through it’s own version of iChat. Unfortunately, Rose also predicted a CDMA and GSM iPhone being released (no the HTC Touch doesn’t count) as well as a slide-out keyboard version (yes there is a patent for it, but not it has not materialized).
The one piece of information that we find reliable in Kevin Rose’s predictions is that a 3G iPhone will be released within a few months, but that is old news and has independently been confirmed from countless media outlets. We are going to give the 3G iPhone with dual cameras supporting video chat via iChat a 4/10, 10 being 100% confident and 1 being 0%.
