Samsung Instinct (SCH-M800) Supports MS Exchange Email and Contacts

by Nick Marshall

After some confusion over the the Press Release for the Samsung Instinct, we have some exciting news. Initially in the Press Release it states, “this device also provides support for corporate and consumer (POP3) email,” but after contacting Samsung we have conflicting information. The Samsung Instinct will support MS Exchange with email and contacts. The other details we have for you is that the OS is proprietary and a joint design between Samsung and Sprint and the format is Java over BREW. Now we just have to wait until June before we can have the final production unit in our hands and enjoy the Sprint iPhone killer in all its EVDO Rev A glory. Special thanks to MWW Group for Samsung Mobile for providing the juicy details.

Samsung Instinct (SCH-M800) Supports MS Exchange Email and Contacts

Hi Nick,

The Samsung Instinct will support Exchange with email and contacts. Also, the OS is proprietary, designed jointly by Samsung and Sprint. The format is Java over BREW. I hope this information helps.

Have a good one,
XXXXXXXX

With threaded SMS texting, visual voice mail and now MS Exchange support the Samsung Instinct is bringing some serious features to the table for Sprint. We are still waiting for confirmation from Sprint on whether or not the $99/month unlimited plan will be required in order to sign up for service with the Samsung Instinct. Until we hear confirmation, we will keep the unlimited plan information a rumor.

Exhance and contacts are great, but will is synch with other Outlook featurs like Calendar and Tasks? I have a Palm Treo 650 and I honestly haven’t found anything else on Sprint’s network (besides the other Palm phones) that rival the features of the Treo 650. I need it to synch completely with Outlook. Will the Instinct synch completely with Outlook?

Unfortunately the Exchange support is limited at email and contacts. The calendar is not part of the package with the latest firmware on the Instinct. Hopefully they make the change because today’s iPhone 3G announcements are killing the Instinct’s press power.

Back to the “Outlook calendar sync” lack of functionality. This is a requirement in the business marketplace. The addition of this one function could wipe out a great deal of future blackberry and iPhone sales.

SAMSUNG and SPRINT keep fighting the good fight. WE are all behind you and are willing to help. However the window for this critical application – calendar sync – is limited. Get creative! You know like Apple; your main competitor for these types of appliances.

The only feature (or lack there of) that is stoping me from buying the Instinct is lack of outlook calendar syncing.

My obsolete Nokia 6275i can sync with every aspect of outlook and it’s not even a smartphone, Samsung better work on this or many people will simply buy the iphone instead, including myself.

To be able to sync with the calendar is “MUST” have. This will be the demise of the Instinct amongst Co. users. We need this yesterday!

You are 100% correct. The lack of MS Exchange calendar syncing and the overall lack of email syncing (folders etc) pretty much eliminates the Instinct as a contender for any corporate user. The iPhone leaves a lot to be desired as well, but the email features are far more robust.

Do you think in time the Instince will be able to support syncing of Outlook calendar? Or is that a functionality that will never work?

I really enjoy the Instinct phone but I live by my calendar. I will quickly move on to something else if does get some attention. Even if they just improve on the native calendar I could live with it.

Well the Sprint HTC Touch Diamond should be out by next Tuesday — much better specs and Windows Mobile 6.1.

I’ve had the Instinct for almost a month – love many of the features, especially the visual vm; but I have to agree that the calendar is sub par. It’s clunky and doesn’t send you reminders!!! Yikes! I live by my calendar and need the option to sync w/ outlook. Thinking of returning it for a blackberry since I can’t find any calendar update information anywhere.

I just boughtn the Instinct myself and love all the features. I just found out that my Outlook calendar will not sync and I live buy my calendar. I really don’t want to return it…Has anyone heard if the will come out with software that will allow this to happen??

I had no problem syncing with MS Exchange, the email, contacts, and calendaring just fine. The question comes in is how to tell the phone to sync automatically. Since the phone uses OWA. Most Exchange servers that enable OWA has a set time out period.

Questino is, how do you tell the phone to check for message and calendar changes every 15 mintues..
