The verdict is out and the Treo 800w is the top candidate for the latest Palm Beta testing program. In an email sent out today, Palm is asking certain customers to accept the offer to test an “innovative new product” with a few simple requirements; access to a Wi-Fi router, Sprint service, heavy email and smartphone use. Based upon the above mentioned details the only device that comes to mind is the delayed Treo 800w which we previously expected to launch this June.

With recent reports on the device delay, it seems that Palm is going to refine the next generation Windows Mobile based Treo to reach the success of their Palm Centro. Here is a brief overview of the email sent out by Palm:

The Palm Beta Test Team
While the Treo 700wx continues to satisfy the Palm enthusiasts, the recent 4th Quarter performance and failed launch of the Foleo leave Palm with a need to succeed. As we previously reported, Windows Mobile 6.0, EV-DO Rev A, Wi-Fi, GPS and a 2 megapixel camera are still expected to be included in the device later this year. Although a July launch for the Treo 800w on the Sprint Network is still possible, we don’t recommend holding your breath (refer to the Treo 700wx delayed launch).
