Let me start off by saying that this image is yet to be confirmed, but it is said to be the Palm Treo 800w prototype. You remember, the Palm Treo 800w set to launch on Sprint’s network this July with Evdo Rev A, GPS, Wifi and of course Windows Mobile 6.1. Well the picture brings a few interesting pieces of information to the table.

First, the Palm Treo 800w is going under a new codename: “Zepplin” from now on, but again this has yet to be confirmed so we will be sticking to the Treo 800w name until noted. It would not be out of question that the 800w might become the Zepplin seeing as how Palm’s latest success was named the Centro instead of a conventional naming structure.

The second piece of information that we can pull from this picture is that the Treo 800w does not have a miniUSB port on the bottom, but instead uses a microUSB plug so you can expect your current USB cables for syncing to be useless.  On the positive side, the 320 x 320 resolution screen is all set to go and supported by Windows Mobile 6.1 so at least there will be a notable improvement over the 700wx, but Treo 755p users will notice little difference.

To be honest the buttons look exactly like the Treo 700 series and the form factor is not too far off the Treo 755.  We are going to give Palm the benefit of the doubt on this one and hopefully the final release has a sleeker design or at least manages to shave off some edges.  The most recent announcement from Palm regarding the 800w release date is still intact for a Summer launch expected in July on Sprint.
