Sprint 5GB download limit set to match Verizon Wireless

by Nick Marshall

It looks like the good ole days are over for Sprint users now that the carrier has mortalized its subscribers with a 5GB monthly download limit.  On other networks this data cap has always existed in the fine print and can result in additional fines and even service termination.  With the nation’s largest push to talk network and broadband data network, it seems that Sprint has lost its giving spirit.  It is now official that Sprint has a policy which addresses this 5GB data transfer limit and 300MB of off-network roaming data per month, but the real question is whether or not they will enforce it.

Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming. Check your subscriber agreement rights on Sprint.com” -Internal Sprint Memo

So what are the consequences for Sprint customers exceeding the 5GB data transfer limit per month?  Well we are unsure, and furthermore we are unsure if Sprint will actually enforce this policy other than adding it to the fine print of our contracts.  Honestly, a data cap is expected on mobile networks these days, but with falling stock prices and a failing Samsung Instinct vs iPhone campaign, taking away any perks from customers is a no-no.  In the event that Sprint decides to take on the internal memo with action you can expect your Sprint service to magically stop working as their plan of action seems to be terminating customers violating the data cap.
