If you are a Sprint customer your Jesus phone is the Samsung Instinct, if you have At&t then you have the iPhone, but for everyone else that is looking for pure touchscreen non-Windows Mobile pleasure there are several choices. Samsung has decided to skip the busy work and direct you to their latest touchscreen device the Samsung F480. Immediately off the bat, the Samsung F480 looks like the LG Vu/Prada, but with some special twists compliments of Samsung’s new user interface. The TOUCHWiZ user interface will the difference that Samsung hopes to use to steer consumers clear of the LG lineup and differentiate the F480 from other touchscreen non-Windows Mobile devices on the market. Although this is promising, the big news is the camera on the F480 which brings an interesting twist to cell phone cameras by introducing a CMOS video lense.

In the world of high-end DSLR cameras, CMOS lenses play the integral role of delivering the high quality optics capable of delivering pictures beyond the standard point and shoot digital cameras commonly used today. What makes the CMOS lens on the Samsung F480 so unique is that it only measures 11.6 mm thick by 98.4 mm tall and 55 mm wide which is an amazing accomplishment along with packing this technology into a cell phone. Beyond the CMOS sensor is automatic face detection technology and a sophisticated image stabilizer, both of which you rarely see on a cell phone and especially not in a slim package like the F480
The list of groundbreaking features continues with a ’smile shot’ mode that enables the F480’s camera to detect when the friends and family are smiling and automatically takes another picture. As far as the internal memory goes you will have 240MB of internal storage and support for up to 8GB of microSD expansion. Since this device is a GSM based phone, HSDPA connectivity is standard along with USB 2.0 support for syncing and transferring files from the phone. Now the big question, when will the Samsung F480 be available to purchase and where? The launch of the Samsung F480 will begin in all major European markets starting in June and then make its way to other GSM regions and ultimately we hope to see the device launch in the US with At&t’s 3g bands.

oh man if SPrint gets this phone (which the idiots who own Sprint probably may decline to) then it may have a chance of lasting in the next decade. The disappointment that is in my pocket right now (The Sammie Instinct) is ruined with the hype vs. fact product. I love samsung, really. But they’re no HTC. And maybe this time around, Samsung will do us a favor and stand up for themselves. Sprint has a bullying tendency to force otherwise would be awesome phone manufacturers into sacrificing personal media/ringtone sync capability for the Sprint Music Store. Can anyone tell how much i’m not impressed with sprint? I should calm down.
