Skyfire raises $13 million for mobile browser launch
Getting accepted to the Skyfire private beta program was a beautiful day. Â With support for Java, Flash and Ajax we were amazed by the quality of web browsing and the compatibility for websites like YouTube, Facebook and eBay. Â Today is a groundbreaking day for Skyfire though, thanks to $13 million in funding led by LightSpeed Ventures and first-round investors Trinity and Matrix. Â The future is bright for Mountain View, California based Skyfire and the news is only getting hotter. Â What really makes this round of funding so impressive is that only a select group of people are using the private beta so there is no certainty that the browser will be successful upon final launch. Â Personally, we love the browser, we know it performs and it does the best job of any Windows Mobile browser on the market. Â The only thing stopping Skyfire from taking the cake held by Apple’s iPhone Safari browser are the devices on the market. Â The responsiveness and 3.5 inch screen of the iPhone simply give the Safari browser an unfair advantage when trying to properly gauge the quality of Skyfire browsing, but with the HTC Touch/Touch Pro launching soon the time for Skyfire to shine is coming soon. Â We really could not think of a better time for Skyfire to launch a full-scale public launch with two impressive VGA devices hitting the market from HTC.
