Well the ink has not dried on the paper, but Reuters is reporting that someone close to Verizon Wireless has reported the company is currently in talks with Alltel Wireless.  If the talks materialize in a buy out we can go ahead and expect the worst for Alltel considering their customer friendly pricing, my circle unlimited calling and T-mobile style perky attitude from ‘Chad’.  If big red was to take over Alltel I would imagine that they would have little choice besides converting subscribers into traditional VZW customers and do away with the pocket friendly My Circle Plans that have made Alltel Wireless so famous the past couple of years.  If the two companies were to merge through a buyout it would result in a subscriber base of more than 80 million customers making it the largest network operator inside the United States.  The cost of becoming the largest US carrier will not be cheap for Verizon if Alltel agrees to a deal since analysts predict the value of Alltel Wireless to be in the neighborhood of $27 billion dollars.  If anyone has the money to spend on a monster acquisition it would be VZW, but for the sake of friendly network competition let’s hope this deal fizzles.
