Verizon Wireless Summer Phones: Dare, Decoy & Chocolate 3

article Nick Marshall

Not looking to switch to At&t and pick up the iPhone 3G this summer because you are loyal (or stuck) on Verizon Wireless?  Good news folks, Verizon Wireless has just announced three new handsets to keep you entertained and feeling cool this summer: LG Dare, LG Decoy and LG Chocolate 3.  It looks like LG has decided to give Samsung some competition as Sprint partnered up early to deliver the June 20th launch of the Instinct.

To fight off the Instinct and the iPhone 3G, LG has come through with the ‘Dare’, a touchscreen phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera.  As usual it will support Verizon’s EVDO network along with V CAST, VZ Navigator and V CAST Music.  According to Verizon, the LG Dare’s touchscreen keyboard is on par with other touchscreen phones and it will not hamper your texting skills.

The second phone being released, the LG Decoy, is a phone we talked about in detail and packs a bluetooth headset into the back of the phone.  While the risk of losing both your phone and headset in a single punch is daunting, we commend the innovation.  The Decoy should do well with the July 1st cell phone laws going into effect in California requiring the use of a headset while driving.

The last phone on the list is the third generation of the ever popular LG Chocolate, dubbed the LG Chocolate 3.  With an even slimmer form factor, built-in FM transmitter and 1GB of internal memory, Chocolate fans should welcome the upgrade with open arms.  If 1GB is not enough for your music (which we doubt it is), the Chocolate 3 supports microSD cards up to 8GB.  There has been no word on SDHC support so don’t get too excited on using the upcoming 32GB microSD cards just yet.

The release date for the LG Dare will hit June 16th, just in time to steal some shine away from Sprint’s Instinct and Apple’s iPhone 3G.  The Decoy and the Chocolate 3 have not been given launch dates, but we expect both to release in no more than 2 months.  The big question is whether or not these three LG handsets are enough to keep your weary eyes away from the power of Apple and Samsung…
