Further details on the launch of Visual Voicemail on Verizon Wireless have surfaced giving new insight to the first five devices being showcased by the carrier.  The first device which we mentioned yesterday, the LG Voyager (Refresh), will be adding Visual Voicemail since it is often referred to as the iPhone-killer.  The next device will be the Motorola Utopia (Vu30), followed by the LG Chocolate 3 (vx8560).  The big news here is that the elusive BlackBerry touchscreen device, the BlackBerry Thunder, is also on the list to get the Visual Voicemail treatment and was the the fourth device mentioned.  The final device that will be part of the Visual Voicemail launch is the Blaze (touchscreen).

With the acquisition of Alltel Wireless, Verizon’s licensing of the Visual Voicemail service is a step in the right direction.   With the LG Voyager and Dare set to directly compete with the iPhone on At&t, the largest carrier in the US just gained some well needed momentum for the coming months.  The real kicker for the race among the top two carriers will be the launch of the BlackBerry Thunder as RIM makes the leap into the world of touchscreen and attempts to show Apple who’s boss.
