The next step in the Samsung Blackjack trilogy has been announced today, the Samsung Blackjack III.  Also known as the SCH-M480, the 3G HSDPA capable Blackjack III will be called the the Ultra Messaging 2 in Korea when it is launched this July.  According to SK Telecom, the carrier will be launching the Ultra Messaging 2/Blackjack III/SCH-M480 mid-July in a move to add variety to the smartphones offered on their network.

Besides a launch date, Samsung also revealed the official specifications of the Blackjack III.  Surprisingly, the Blackjack III will not come with Windows Mobile 6.1, but instead will feature Windows Mobile 6 Professional.  As with all Windows Mobile Professional devices, the OS is designed for touchscreen smartphones and that is exactly what the 2.6 inch 320×320 display delivers.  This will be the first Blackjack to step away from the Windows Mobile Standard OS and move towards a touchscreen, complete with a BlackBerry-style keypad and finger mouse.

The one area that we would have like to see upgraded a bit more was the camera, but the SCH-M480 will only feature a 2.0 megapixel camera (no word on flash). Another big change to the Samsung Blackjack III is that it will feature WiFi 802.11 b/g connectivity so whether you have 3G HSDPA service on SK Telecom or you are looking to save on that data plan, the SCH-M480 has you covered.  The final tidbits of information revealed on the Blackjack III is that it has bluetooth support, mp3/mpeg4/wmv file support and a microSD card slot.  You can start looking for the Samsung Blackjack III to start shipping next week on SK Telecom.
