Verizon Wireless adds BlackBerry Mobile Banking

If the BlackBerry Pearl, Curve or 8830 World Edition have made their homes in your pocket, Verizon has added a free bonus for your banking needs.  While the Mobile Banking Application is available to many ‘Get It Now-capable phones’, BlackBerry users now have their own version of the software specific to the BlackBerry OS and best of all the software is free.  The only downside to the application is that it only works for a small number of banks which include: Wachovia, Regions, SunTrust, USAA, Synovus, America First Credit Union (AFCU), Arvest, Bancorp South, FirstBank, South Financial and BECU.

Verizon Wireless adds BlackBerry Mobile Banking

In order to use the Mobile Banking application on your BlackBerry simply go to the VZ Start Home Page and click the Mobile Banking link.  Once you have the application installed, sign up with Mobile Banking through your financial institution.  You will be given an eight digit code from your bank which you will in order to activate the service on your phone which creates a secure connection between the phone and your account. 

  • Account Balance and Transaction History – Get account balances and account transaction history.
  • Transfers – Transfer funds between eligible accounts at the same financial institution.
  • Bill Payment – View and pay bills when enrolled in their financial institution’s Bill Pay service.
  • Mobile History – View the last five transactions successfully completed on their mobile devices.

Additional security measures have been added to the Mobile Banking application which include: multi-factor authentication including initialization codes and six-digit PIN requirements; lock out after three invalid PIN entries; use of account nicknames instead of account numbers; encrypted transactions; time out of application after two minutes on Choose PIN screen and 10 minutes on other screens; and lost device functionality, which disables the application. In addition, funds can only be transferred between accounts that are set up with online access, and Bill Pay payees cannot be set up or edited on the phone.
