While the world waits for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Sony Ericsson has decided to announce three new Walkman Phones: W302, W595 and W902. Unfortunately the W302 will be limited to EDGE data speeds and the W595 and W902 will only sport 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, ending the hopes and dreams of US 3G customers. Although there might be subsequent releases in NAM flavors, the W302, W595 and W902 will all be released in Q4 2008.

The first device on the list, the Sony Ericsson W302 Walkman phone, fulfills the needs of an entry-level music phone. Complete with a 2.0 megapixel camera, FM radio and Walkman player, the W302 is ready to take on the music and mobile needs in the affordable handset market. With a curb weight of under 80 grams and dimensions measuring 100 x 46 x 10.5 mm, the W302 offers a solid choice for those users focused on music and blogging capabilities. The W302 will feature quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850|900|1800|1900 MHz connectivity and will be sold in two colors: Midnight Black and Sparkling White.

Next up on the Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone release day is the W595, a HSDPA capable slider phone. With a 2.2 inch bright display, an included 2GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) in the box and a stereo share jack so you can listen in from an additional handset, the W595 is a welcomed upgrade. The W595 will be available in Active Blue, Cosmopolitan White, Jungle Grey and Lava Black in Q4 2008 along with the other two devices. There will also be two additional versions of the W595, the W595c/W595a which will support GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850|900|1800|1900 MHz, but the original version will also support 2100 MHz UMTS/HSDPA. To round out the features, a 3.2 megapixel camera and Shake Control are also included to deliver the best in music and multimedia in the Walkman phone lineup.

The final piece of the Sony Ericsson puzzle is the W902, a 5.0 megapixel Walkman phone that comes bundled with a 8GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) in the box. With the same FM radio capabilities as the W302 and W595, this Walkman phone delivers video calls, geotagging of photos and the Access NetFront Web Browser. Java supports, Clear Stereo, Clear Bass and dedicated music keys help round out the functions, but the real gem on the W902 is truly the autofocus camera. Much like the W595, 2100 MHz UMTS/HSDPA connectivity is included and there are several color choices for the Q4 2008 release date: Volcanic Black, Wine Red and Earth Green. With top ranks in features and expected retail price, the W902 is a serious competitor in the world of music phones, and high-end camera phones with the Nokia N96 slated as its direct competitor.
