Nokia N96 passes through the FCC

article Nick Marshall

With a smooth double-sliding mechanism, the Nokia N96 has just slid its way through the FCC testing process.  The move comes as a bit of surprise because we really did not expect the N96 to see a US release for quite some time, but we welcome the good news.  After being announced at the 2008 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, the N96 has suffered a series of delays which now have the device launching sometime in October of this year.

Analysts and industry insiders have long praised the Nokia N95 for breaking the barrier on maximum features in a comfortable size and the N96 is no different.  With a 5.0 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, autofocus and a Carl Zeiss lens, the VGA-resolution video recording at up to 30 fps is simply a bonus.  Originally we had heard and seen (prototypes) that showed the N96 with a single LED flash and then we were told it would be a Xenon flash, but now it looks like a dual LED flash will be in the official release.

The other big features on the Nokia N96 are the built-in GPS receiver, DVB-H tuner, Symbian S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2 and the built-in kickstand in the back of the phone for video playback.  If you want to get down and dirty with the details on the FCC filing hit the link below, otherwise you can expect the Nokia N96 to see a birth on At&t’s network later this year.
