The US version of the Nokia N78, known as the N78-3, has just received an Over The Air (OTA) firmware update. This is a beautiful thing for Nokia fanboys who have become accustom to data cable installs via the PC Suite, but today that ends. A member over at Howard Forums, Mobilehavoc, has reported his finding after being blessed with the OTA firmware update:
Update completed! Very very impressed. Phone booted up normal and then shortly got a little dialog that said “Phone update complete”. ALL my data/apps and settings are intact and it’s like nothing ever happened.
GO NOKIA!! I hope updates continue to be released this way…it’s magical!
So far haven’t noticed any major changes but the real test is going to be over the next few days as I use it. I’ll continue to post back in this thread with any changes.
yes this is the latest release 12.046 that is also out for the N78 EURO. I’m especially excited since there were supposed to be several stability improvements included – let’s hope they weren’t lying.
If you have been keeping tabs, this firmware update follows an earlier mid-July firmware update for the European version of the Nokia N78, but it was not compatible with the US version. Nokia failed to answer the hopes of many Nokia N78-3 owners in July by announcing that there was no ETA for their firmware update, but all is well with today’s OTA firmware. If you have a Nokia N78-3 you can grab the latest firmware v12 by doing an over the air update on the handset.
