The RIM BlackBerry Bold has been slow to release and as it gradually rolls outs across the world it looks like the delay could prove to be a costly move. Reports have surfaced that global banking giant, HSBC, is considering deploying the iPhone 3G across their international staff of 300,000 users and 30,000 technicians.

With HSBC using BlackBerry devices exclusively across their workforce, the inclusion of MS Exchange support and additional corporate features in the iPhone 3G are beginning to position the device for a corporate take over. While the news is not official and HSBC is still reviewing the roll out of the iPhone 3G, the news is solid enough to cause RIM to rethink their corporate strategy and actually consider the iPhone 3G as a potential corporate killer.
We are actually reviewing iPhones from a HSBC Group perspective…and when I say that, I mean globally,” Brenton Hush, HSBC’s Australia and New Zealand chief information officer, told ZDNet.com.au this week.
“A decision on a piece of hardware like that would potentially be deployed, conservatively, to 200,000 people,” Hush said. “You know, it’s a big decision, especially when you have an existing fleet out there.”
“But it’s definitely something we are considering from a HSBC Group perspective,” he said. “We always explore the potential application of new technologies, and this is no different.”
