Potential iPhone 3G customers have just received the death blow after the country’s finance ministry objected to the guidelines for the 3G spectrum announced by India’s telecom minister. The guidelines were announced earlier this month on August 1st and would have allowed India’s wireless operators to deliver 3G data connectivity for faster Internet and video calls, but unfortunately the plans are scraped.
The finance ministry spokesperson, D. Subbarao, said that the issue of this 3G guidelines, without any consultation with the finance ministry, either within the forum of Telecom Commission or outside, is inappropriate and contrary to the cabinet decision.

India currently represents the fastest growth in wireless subscriptions and Apple took note of this when making iPhone 3G plans. It will be interesting to see if Apple is able to hit their iPhone 3G sales target this year without a 3G network in India to take advantage of their latest device.
