iPhone 3G Software Update 2.0.2 goes live at 5PM EST, crashes at 5:01PM

The carriers complained, the users complained and now Apple has listened as they have just release an update to the iPhone software, version 2.0.2.  The new version went live at 5PM EST and consists of mainly performance tweaks, but most importantly it is expected to address the ‘reception/signal issues’.

Unfortunately during our software update this afternoon we experienced a problem that many users were reporting with the 2.0.1 software: “The iPhone could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1602).”  After disconnecting the iPhone several times and restarting iTunes we continued to have the same issue as well as being confronted with Found New Hardware dialog boxes (Windows XP).

We are going to keep playing around with the update and we’ll report back to you if we get it running smooth.  In the meantime we leave you with a final picture of the current state of our iPhone 3G and try to convince ourselves that the possibility of the update fixing our reception issues was worth it.

Getting the exact same thing at 10pm tonight running on a Vista x64 machine. Except my error message says this:

iTunes could not sync ^0 to the iPhone “esotericsean” because an unknown error occurred (-19).

*sigh*

Ended up just taking the iPhone to a different computer, installing the latest iTunes and connecting. iTunes detected the phone and said it was in recovery mode, downloaded the update and installed. Once the update finished I took it back to the original computer and it detected and I was able to choose a backup to restore the phone.

Apple Sucks Big Time!

Apple need to be sued (class action) for wasting all our time being jacked-off with this less-than-ready for prime time iPhone 3G.

This update crashing BS is a bunch of crap!

They are far worse than Microsoft Corporation.

And I don’t mean that in a small way either; I mean it in a BIG way!

Apple produces second (no third) rate products.

And you Apple cronies better suck-up and shut-up to the fact that this is true!
