With several GPS manufacturers eagerly ready to release turn-by-turn software for the iPhone 3G, the question becomes why haven’t they done so. According to an article from MSNBC, they were able to talk to GPS Manufacturer, TomTom:
We have made our navigation system run on the iPhone; it looks good and works very well,” said Dutch-based company TomTom, in a statement to msnbc.com. “We will have to look more closely to Apple’s strategy before we can say more about what kind of opportunities this will bring us.”
With TomTom having their application up and running on the iPhone 3G why haven’t we seen any software release to the App Store? Apparently Apple’s Greg Joswiak was quoted as describing the navigation Apps as “complicated”, but left no further clues to why TomTom cannot release their software. At the end of the day we have only confirmed what we believed all along, the iPhone 3G is capable of turn-by-turn navigation and TomTom’s software runs on the device.
