BlackBerry Javelin, KickStart and Bold take a picture break

by Nick Marshall

While several carriers have launched the BlackBerry Bold, it seems that the new talk of the town is centered around the BlackBerry Javelin.  Despite lacking 3G connectivity, the Javelin brings more memory and a smaller, sleeker form factor to the table.  Pictured along side the BlackBerry Bold and Javelin is the soon to be released BlackBerry 8220 Pearl, more commonly known as the KickStart.

When pictured next to the BlackBerry Bold it seems that the Javelin is considerably smaller.  Unfortunately this is result of the camera angle rather than physical dimensions as you can see in the picture below (Javelin left, Curve right).  In case you were worried that your BlackBerry Curve would lose its rank as the smallest QWERTY BlackBerry to date, it looks like a tie with the Javelin.

With a bigger screen than the Curve, the Javelin’s half VGA resolution screen should deliver extremely sharp images.  Many users are looking towards the Javelin instead of the Bold simply based on the 3.2 megapixel camera.  We have included a couple sample shots of the quality of the Javelin’s camera and we must say it is very impressive compared to what we have seen from the BlackBerry Bold.

The sharpness to the picture, the flash and the vivid color are excellent.  While this is not on par with the best from Nokia’s lineup, we are definitley seeing the next wave of BlackBerry devices surpass the best from Windows Mobile.  Below you can see a sample shot from the BlackBerry Bold for comparison, while it is still equally as sharp, the lack of a flash really limits your picture opportunities.
