Sprint HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro get priced with release dates

article Nick Marshall

The debate over the release date for the Sprint HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro has been under constant scrutiny.  Initially we heard that the Touch Diamond would launch in early September (September 2nd) and then we heard it would be delayed until October.  Thanks to our friends at Engadget, a tipster has pointed us in what we believe is the right direction (cross fingers).  According to the screenshot below, the Sprint HTC Touch Diamond will have a ‘mid-September’ release date with the Touch Pro following on October 19th.

This information goes along with what we have heard in the past, but we are still going to cross our fingers for a September 2nd launch of the Touch Diamond. Besides the release dates, the pricing information is good news for Sprint customers.  With the Touch Diamond selling for upwards of $700 unlocked on eBay and online retailers and the Touch Pro breaking $900, the Sprint suggested retail prices are a breath of fresh air.  At $549.99 for the Touch Diamond and $579.99 for the Touch Pro, we expect the 2 year contract price to be $299 and $329 respectively.Having a taste of carrier subsidized TouchFLO 3D running at 528Mhz is just too tempting and like many of you, we can’t wait to take a spin with EVDO Rev A and HTC’s next generation of Windows Mobile devices.

Device Suggested Retail Price
HTC Touch Diamond $549.99 (release date: mid-September)
HTC Touch Pro $579.99 (release date: October 19th)

Update Sept 10th: Today Sprint issued a Press Release outlining several device launches but most importantly they confirmed the September launch of the Touch Diamond and October launch of the Touch Pro. According to the Press Release, the HTC Touch Diamond will be available beginning in September. It will cost $249.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. HTC Touch Pro will be available Oct. 19 for $299.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. It looks like Sprint will take the cake as the first US carrier to launch either of these devices unless we see At&t bump up their release date unexpectedly.

I spoke with two sprint reps and they told me that the HTC diamond would be coming out SEP 14. On that day anyone could buy it NOT SEP 2.

Yea it probably will not be out Sept 2nd, but it doesn’t hurt to keep our fingers crossed. The device is currently listed on the corporate Sprint Portal ‘Bluefish’ with a September launch date. Basically Sprint has 30 days to make good on their promise to release the HTC Touch Diamond.

I have been waiting a very long time now for the HTC touch but and wondering if I should just give in and take the diamond. I love the keyboard but should i really wait another month and a half for it?

@Lucas:

I’m just about at a break’s peek with the decision as well. I can’t decide on which one I prefer more and that would suit me better. I’m a total power user when it comes to computers and gadgets of any kind – which leads me to believing I should wait for the Pro. A month and a week, right now seems like quite a bit of a ways away, but I have waited longer for other things before. I think right now for me cost is the highest factor in determining my decision. If the Diamond will retail for $549, I might be more pushed to buy it because I prefer a retail phone over a contract any day. On the other hand, with the contract for the Pro being possibly as low as $379…that’s tempting. Suffice to say, my choice remains undecided (for now).

Dont worry Lucas in time…. im waiting just like you and i think its worth the wait. Ever since the iphone came out i said they need a touch phone with a slide out keyboard and i finally got it. The pro will be out in Oct and im def getting it. I right alot of music along with txting so my keyboard is very helpful. besides that the PRO is the sexiest phone hands down
