The iPhone has always been reliant on unlimited data since its inception in June 2007. However, it looks like the outburst of disgruntled Rogers Wireless subscribers, lacking affordable data plans, will be getting a break October 1st. While unlimited data on the iPhone is still not part of Roger’s plan, the carrier has improved two of their plans as their $30 6GB data option looks to be disappearing at the end of the month.

$60/month: 250 daytime minutes with unlimited nights and weekends (up from 150 minutes). 1GB of data (up from 400MB). 75 text messages. Visual Voicemail. Three Months of Unlimited local calling. A Permanent MY5 Local option.
$75/month: 400 daytime minutes with unlimited nights and weekends (up from 300 minutes). 2GB of data *up from 750MB). 100 text messages. Visual Voicemail. Three Months of Unlimited local calling. A Permanent MY5 Local option.
This is one step in the right direction for Rogers Wireless, but still a long way from affordable unlimited data. The real unfortunate news is that going over your data plan will still cost 50 cents/MB for the first 60MB and 3 cents per MB thereafter.
