BlackBerry Bold vs Nokia E71 in Pictures

We’ve seen the BlackBerry Bold vs the iPhone 3G, but this time we bring you a different twist thanks a superb Nokia design, known as the E71.  The E71 and BlackBerry Bold are both at the top of business world in both features and design, while the BlackBerry has always been labeled as an email machine, the Nokia E series attacks business users with the versatility of software and document editing while also maintaining Microsoft Exchange support.  With the latest BlackBerry OS, RIM has redefined what it means to be a BlackBerry User and while you still will not have the power when it comes to documents as you do on a Windows Mobile device, the barrier is slowly breaking down.

The Nokia E71 features the style and size that we have learned to expect from the number 1 handset manufacturer in the world.   The BlackBerry Bold is both heavier, wider and thicker than the E71, but to RIM’s credit, the Bold delivers the higher resolution screen, full GPS (E71 A-GPS) and the faster 624MHz processor.  With both devices sharing the same form factor, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP), HSDPA connectivity and high-end price tags how could you really go wrong with either device?

The biggest differences in specs remain in the image area, where the Bold packs a 2.0 megapixel versus the E71’s 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus.  Despite the higher resolution screen on the BlackBerry Bold, the E71 still retains the higher color count at 16 million versus the Bold’s 65k.  Onboard memory is also a close race, the BlackBerry Bold edges out the E71 with 128MB of RAM as compared to the E71’s 110MB.  While we anxiously await a review units for both devices (and the At&t October launch of the Bold), enjoy the side-by-side comparison shots brought to you by SymbianFrance.

The E71 is using Nokia Maps by default… you could install Google Maps, but that is not exactly real-time navigation quality directions. At&t Navigator with the BlackBerry Bold would be the better choice for a simple solution.

Nokia Maps 2.0 is very robust and does offer a 3 dimensional view, but the simplicity of using At&t’s pre-packaged software might be more suitable.

Just an FYI, both phones have A-GPS. the A stands for Assisted, meaning it uses a data connection (usually from the cell towers) to quickly download ephemeris information that would otherwise take much longer through regular gps signals.

It appears that some website could patch the Nokia E71 GPS feature to a standalone GPS device. The key thing is you don’t have to pay for data plan to use GPS. Can I connect to internet using the wifi capability without a data plan?
I’m looking forward to hear from experience users from this forum.
