How To Crash Vista? Run iTunes 8

article Nick Marshall

Well to be honest it does take a little bit more than just a Windows Vista machine and iTunes 8, but the crash reports are popping up all over the Internet.  The crashes occur once either an iPod or iPhone is connected to the PC and immediately you are confronted with a blue screen of death.  Here is a first-hand experience direct from a user over at ComputerWorld:

I just installed iTunes 8 over my iTunes 7 on Vista [and] now whenever I plug in my iPod, I get a blue screen death. Three times so far. Even if it is plugged in on boot, I get a blue screen,” said a user identified as ’sambeckett’ on the support forum about 90 minutes after Apple CEO Steve Jobs wrapped up the iPod launch.

Luckily for us, we ditched Vista in favor of XP months ago, but we are sure many of the Cellfanatic readers are unfortunately stuck in this bind.  Let us know how you are working around the bugs and if you find a way to make Vista and iTunes 8 co-exist.

Update: In a support document posted around 8:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Apple urged Vista users who had been unable to synchronize their iPods or iPhones using iTunes 8 to uninstall both iTunes and an Apple-provided device driver, then download and reinstall the entire 75MB package yet again.
