In many ways the XPERIA X1 was developed similar to the HTC’s TouchFLO 3D UI. Steering clear of the traditional Windows Mobile interface was a priority and SE designed the X1 to function with the end user as the first priority. With the ‘Panel Interface’ the device delivers both function and simplicity while escaping the common downfalls of the Windows Mobile 6.1 UI. Customization was a key component in making the ‘Panel Interface’ work and Sony Ericsson plans on porting this interface over to other devices in the future. One of the most interesting comments made in the Webcast is that the XPERIA X1 is not locked into Windows Mobile which suggests the possibility of an Android powered version. While no specifics were given, the possibility of an Android X1 is music to our ears. If anything the voice of manufacturers like Sony Ericsson and HTC could be enough to motivate Microsoft to a develop a revolutionary Windows Mobile Operating System sooner rather than later.
