The T-mobile Press Event has just concluded and the purpose was simple ‘Integration of the Internet and the Mobile Phone’. The T-mobile G1 is the birth of a new platform, new device and new set of services. The event started out with an explanation of T-mobile’s commitment followed by introductions from Google, T-mobile and HTC.

T-mobile’s exclusive partnership with Google will be a milestone in the wireless industry. The G1 will have a simultaneous launch on both sides of the globe, USA and Europe. A promise has been made to bring the device to consumers by the end of this year.

The efforts for the T-mobile G 1 began almost 3 years ago. The rumors are finally over and the G1 has officially been revealed (no surprises here). Everyone at the event will be able to use and demo the G1 to experience first hand, the device and applications.

T-mobile G1 specs are officially released along with the major functions. Most importantly multi-tasking is a fundamental aspect of the device along with instant messaging. The G1 is looking very Sidekick-esque in both features, speed and style.

Compass mode was the most impressive feature of Google Maps. As you move, the Street View application rotates, literally placing you in the location through your G1 screen. Multiple web pages, Android’s App Store and the photo capabilities of the T-mobile G1 seem very impressive. The focus of the platform is to allow 3rd parties to drive innovation and ultimately the platform through Open Source.

The development community was a major force in the T-mobile G1. Two 3rd party developers were showcased, first, Ecorio a GPS tracking footprint software showed how you could follow your path with the GPS receiver in the G1. The second, ShopSavvy introduced a barcode scanner software that lets you check the price and details of any product simply by snapping a picture of the barcode.

It is official the pricing is $179 on a 2 year commitment for new and existing customers. The G1 will be available starting October 22nd with a commercial launch. The G1 will be compatible with 2 data/messaging plan options either $25 with unlimited web Internet some text, $35 for unlimited web and messaging. Europe will launch the G1 in early November and then hit across Europe in 2009.

No Microsoft Exchange compatibility out of the box. Microsoft Word, PDF and Excel files are readable, but no authoring software is included on the device. Push email will be introduced through IMAP using Gmail. The best experience of the G1 will be on WiFi and the T-mobile 3G network. Contrary to previous rumors, the G1 will be available in ALL MARKETS in the US, but the ideal market will be 3G areas. The WebKit browser was used build the G1’s browser, which was the same development kit used to build Google’s Chrome browser.

The G1 will be targeted mainly at the consumer market, but not specifically at the business segment. They expect many business users to purchase the G1, but just like the original iPhone the device is limited out of the box without MS Exchange support, small 3G network and no Microsoft Office authoring capabilities. GoogleTalk presence was an integral part of the active Phonebook which shows the online presence of your contacts. As far as audio goes, the content must be DRM unlocked in order to work on the T-mobile G1. No support for Skype at this time, but the device is dual band on the UTMS side and quadband on the GSM side with International support.

With the growing mobile industry having computer-like functionality on the phone with an open eco-system will lead to amazing things to happen. Location-based services are at the forefront of the future mobile environment. Being able to tap into the millions of mobile users who have never experience or disliked the experience of using the Internet on their phone will be fundamental in the success of the T-mobile G1. The event concluded with all press being sent downstairs to test the T-mobile G1 for the first time, live and in person.
