Earlier this week BGR was passed an official At&t document outlining the upcoming Pantech Matrix phone. The device is heavily aimed towards text message addicts with its dual sliding hinge reminiscent of the Helio Ocean (also manufactured by Pantech). With Helio’s fate lying in the hands of Virgin Mobile now, it seems only fitting that At&t would be the next in line for a Helio Ocean alternative. The Pantech Matrix will featured dual-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity for speedy online access while delivering a 1.3 megapixel camera and Video Share support for multimedia needs. Bluetooth 2.0 will also be included on the device and at launch there will be three colors to choose from: red, blue or black.
The only piece of missing information at this point is the price point. With so many devices hitting At&t these days and the iPhone dropping the high-end smartphone price tag to under $200, we would expect nothing less than bargain for the Pantech Matrix. If the Pantech Duo by At&t didn’t get your heart racing, maybe this time the Matrix will do the trick.
Update 10/1: Release date is mid-October at the latest according to a retail manager in Rochester, MN. The phone will be $119.99 on a 2 year contract before a $50 MIR bringing the final cost down to $79.99. Thanks Whitney

The Matrix will be available for $79.99 this Thursday at At&t stores.
I just called AT&T today. Its coming but not today. She says sometimes this month tho. I will be called when it comes out!!!!
I went to the AT&T store yesterday and looked at this phone, There it shows the phone as a 3.2 megapixel camera not a 1.3 MP. Which MP is it?
the matrix is 79.99 with 2 yr contract. Without 279.99.
THATS RETAIL PRICE?? my phone broke and i need a new one … no insurance. I need the retail value if u no it and if this is not retail
If your phone broke and you don’t have insurance then the 279.99 is what you would pay. it comes out to 303. Unless it was not your fault and they tell u to send it back and they will replace it for you.
I am very excited, im getting this phone in 5 days and I really hope I will like it
I got this phone and I do not like it.
I do not recommend it, it’s very poorly built.
I didn’t pay retail for it I got two of them for $100.00 by upgrade then the buy one get one free deal.
But, I now have the LG Vu, which I love.
I strongly recommend it.
