Samsung launches D980 in Russia and JetSet in the US

    Two devices have been released today by Samsung, the D980 in Russia and the JetSet via Cricket in the U.S.  While the devices are entirely different levels of handsets, the launches are excellent examples of Samsung’s versatility.  The first device, the D980, was first announced back in July as the first touchscreen phone with dual SIM card support.  Support for 900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE bands is impressive, but the phone doesn’t have 3G connectivity.  Here is a breakdown of the Samsung D980 specifications:

    The second device released by Samsung, the JetSet, will be available on the Cricket Network in the U.S.  For those of you unfamiliar with Cricket, it is a subsidiary of Leap Wireless.  The JetSet will be compatible with Cricket’s AWS network and is designed to compete with other high-featured family oriented phones.  Here is a breakdown of the JetSet (SCH-r550) specifications:

    The JetSet SCH-r550 will retail for $199.99 via Cricket stores or dealers, but if you purchase the phone online it is only $179.99.
