A quick poll of about a dozen stores spread across Sacramento, San Jose and San Francisco in Northern California found T-mobile stores with some small lines and ‘brisk sales’. The hope was that foot traffic would pick up later today, but in other areas such as Silicon Valley, G1 supplies were severely limited.

Two stores polled by Gearlog in San Jose, for example, reported twenty or so; a third store, we were told, received a supply of fifty. And, since T-Mobile opened its retail stores at 8 AM to meet the expected demand, the available phones had sold briskly by 8:30 or so. At the El Camino store in Cupertino, for example, the helpful salesman said that all the brown models were out of stock, and he only had five or six of the black models in stock.
Cellfanatic decided to conduct a similar poll across the Los Angeles area covering as far west as Santa Monica and as far east as the San Gabriel Valley. We were told by T-mobile sales associates that there were a few people standing in line in the morning, but they still had units in stock by 2PM PST. Basically they agreed that the majority of sales were done online to existing T-mobile customers and most of the buyers in the store today came in to look at the device in hopes of later returning to make the purchase.
