Whether you pledge your allegiance to T-mobile or Verizon Wireless you are undoubtedly posed with the daunting question of whether to pick up their latest flagship device.  With the momentum behind the T-mobile G1 launch, Google’s Android OS became the focus of much of the smartphone community.  This focus was shifted towards BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion with the release of the Storm last month and now the competition between the two devices is at an all-time high.  Both RIM’s Application Center and Android’s Marketplace offer a major change in the way we access our programs and the volume of developers focused on driving content for these devices will only continue to grow.

At the moment Android has the edge in the volume of content in its Marketplace, but early next year BlackBerry owners will have a chance to explore a large variety of content, some of which we saw at the BlackBerry Developer Conference in October.  The bigger question is whether or not either the G1 or the Storm is compelling enough for wireless subscribers to leave their networks and come join T-mobile or Verizon in the same way At&t experienced with the iPhone and iPhone 3G.

Personally both devices are revolutionary in their own respect, BlackBerry is entering the touchscreen arena for the first time while HTC is leaving behind Windows Mobile in favor of Android.  At the moment, barring any immediate firmware release by RIM for the Storm, we prefer the G1.  On paper the device did not impress us as did the BlackBerry Storm, but real world performance is where we became fans.  While you consider both of these devices as part of your smartphone upgrade, have a look at this side-by-side comparison gallery we have put together to aid in your decision making process.
