The watchful eyes over at HowardForums have spotted what can best be described as a godsend from Verizon Wireless to BlackBerry Pearl and Curve owners. GPS is now a reality in both BlackBerry Maps and Google Maps and no you do not need to spend any of your hard earned money to ‘join in’ this time. According to the thread, GPS has been enabled thanks to BlackBerry 4.5 OS which now includes an option in BlackBerry Maps to select ‘internal gps’. Success with GoogleMaps (which still uses triangulation) seemed to be hit or miss on the forum, but BlackBerry Maps was a success all across the board.
At the time of this post some forum members were reporting as many as 11 available satellites and positioning being determined in 15 to 20 seconds, while others reported 45 seconds and fewer satellites. Anyone giving this a go, feel free to post your comments below and let us know if you have success with your Verizon BlackBerry.

Yeah! It works on Blackberry Maps! Not as good a tool as G-Maps, but it’s a start!
Interestingly, Navizon still wants to connect to my Blue Tooth pocket GPS receiver. Even though the default GPS receiver is set to “Internal Device” in the GPS Options.
Also, interestingly, I didn’t set this option. After I upgraded the OS, I had to go in and change this to my Holux device. But after reading your post, I found it had been switched back. But, Navizon still wants to use the external device.
