The follow up to the very successful T-mobile Shadow has already done its rounds with the FCC, seen its fair share of spy shots and had the owner’s manual leaked. The last item on the agenda is a full-scale launch and according to TmoNews the Shadow II (2) release date is set for January 28, 2009. At this point we will still consider the news to be a rumor, but it would not surprise us if the Shadow II (2) actually came out before the 28th. When you think about it the thought of another EDGE-only smartphone coming to T-mobile makes little sense seeing as T-mobile was the last US carrier to launch a 3G network. While we sit and wait to see if this release date holds out, now is the perfect time to brush up on the confirmed specifications:
- Windows Mobile 6.1
- 2.6 inch display
- GPRS/EDGE connectivity
- Wi-Fi and T-Mobile@home
- Spin-wheel navigation
- A slide out keyboard with 20 keys
- HTML browser
- Email, IM
- MyFaves 1.5
- Bluetooth 2.0
- T-zones, web2go
- MicroSD card support, up to 4GB
The T-mobile Shadow II (2) could be an alternative to the more powerful G1, but it is unlikely that the device will fair well in areas covered by T-mobile’s 3G services. It looks like we’ll have to put our 3G-only T-mobile device launch resolution on the back burner with our fingers crossed for 2010. [TmoNews]
