Earlier this morning in a press release, Sprint and LG Electronics confirmed the ‘Rumor’ circulating the Internet which outlined an impending release of the second generation messaging phone. Slated the Rumor 2, the next iteration of the Rumor franchise will build upon the success of the original by maintaining the form factor with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Stereo Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera and QVGA resolution display. The device is being bundled with Sprint’s Everything Messaging Plan which includes 450 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends starting at 7pm, unlimited mobile 2 mobile, unlimited text / video / picture messaging – for just 49.99 per month. Sprint’s major selling point is that this plan would provide a savings of $120 per year vs. comparable At&t and Verizon plans.
Now onto the important details: price, release date and color choices. The Rumor 2 will be available for $49.99 with a 2 year service agreement after $50 mail in rebate. The messaging phone will be offered in 2 colors, Black Titanium and Vibrant Blue. The Rumor 2 measures 4.4” x 2.1” x 0.7” and weighs just 4.23 ounces and will be available on March 15th in Black Titanium and March 29th in Vibrant Blue online or via telesales. If you want to pickup the Rumor 2 in store you will need to wait until April 19th when the device goes live across all retail channels. [Press Release]
