It started as a rumor and then materialized into a formal T-mobile Press release, but on May 13 an updated version of the infamous Sidekick LX will go on sale. The big changes in the updated Sidekick LX will include 3G support (Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA) and a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. Since video recording capabilities were added to the original Sidekick LX in a OTA software update this functionality will also be included in the updated LX.
The third major improvement is GPS-enabled Live Search which will allow Sidekick LX customers to map their current location, search for nearby points of interest and share favorite spots with friends with Sidekick’s messaging capabilities. The LX screen is also being updated to a 3.2 inch F-WVGA screen with high definition LCD technology that runs at 854×480 resolution.
Starting April 17, existing T-mobile customers can begin to purchase the updated Sidekick LX through a Web-only pre-sale at www.sidekick.com. Following this web-only pre-sale event will be a formal launch on May 13 at select T-mobile retails stores and online at www.t-mobile.com.
