Research in Motion buys Dash Navigation

Dash Navigation units had their 15 minutes of fame on more billboards than car dashboards, but this isn’t stopping the company from breaking news.  According to various news sites Dash Navigation has just been acquired by RIM (Research in Motion) for an undisclosed amount.  Since we had quite a bit of a love hate relationship with Dash Navigation units during our 6 month device trial which ultimately resulted in a car window being shattered and the device being stolen, we’ll refrain from passing judgement on the acquisition.

For what it’s worth we loved the software on the Dash Units but the early 1990’s hardware styling could not have disappeared fast enough.  The interesting piece of information about the software Dash used, Openmoko, is the possibility that RIM could help it make a comeback.
