At&t iPhone 3G S MMS and tethering confirmed for late summer

The fastest way to kill the buzz on the iPhone 3.0 OS was the lack of a release date for the two biggest features, MMS and tethering, on At&t’s network.  The disapproval from the audience at WWDC 2009 was apparent from the silence and muttering and it has placed the carrier in an awkward situation.  According to At&t the reason for the delayed launch of these two features is due to some system upgrades “that will ensure our customers have the best experience with MMS”.  An At&t spokesperson also said that , “we plan to offer a tethering plan, but don’t have an announcement to make at this time.”  The only good news that can be taken away from this situation is that these upgrades have nothing to do with At&t’s 3G network.

According to BGR the real reason that MMS has been delayed on At&t’s network is that they need to manually remove the Opt Out MMS code on each account, but MMS will work with the final OS 3.0 build right away.  Also tethering will be 100% locked out at launch, but At&t is putting together a $70/month plan that will include unlimited data and tethering (no sms/mms).  Keep in mind that the above information is simply rumored and we will have to wait for an offical PR from At&t before we know all the details.

What kinda crap is that. Working with Apple you might think
that they would have worked together.
