Rather than bore you with three separate posts about an AirCard, a WiFi Gateway and a 3G Router coming to Verizon Wireless we’ll cut to the chase and break it down in a single post. At CTIA 2009 in San Diego, Verizon announced the AirLink Helix RT intelligent 3G router powered by ALEOS, which has just been approved to run on the carrier’s network by the FCC. The Helix RT is an ideal solution for providing primary or backup connectivity for field locations, where landline access is not cost-effective or convenient. Multiple connectivity ports, optional WiFi and built in security enable secure 3G connections to clusters of devices, while easy setup and deployment permit temporary Internet access for applications like construction, special events, and concerts.
Next up is the Axesstel MV440 CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A Wi-Fi Gateway. The MV440 combines a 3G WWAN modem, Wi-Fi WLAN router and a four-port Ethernet switch to enable multiple users with high-speed access to e-mail, the Internet, data intensive files and multimedia streaming in one easy to use, plug-and-play desktop networking device.
Last on the list, the Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 2-in-1 Data Card joins the existing Sierra Wireless USB 598 as another data card approved by Verizon’s open development program. The Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 data card supports EV-DO Rev. A technology, providing average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps.
No pricing or release date information was given for any of the three devices at CTIA 2009 in San Diego. You can expect supplemental press releases to follow from the manufacturers to follow with more specific information.
