Ever since CES 2009 rolled through we’ve been waiting for our chance to test out magnetic induction charging on our phones.  Since we do not use the Palm Pre and the Touchstone, the Powermat is our only option that would allow us to take advantage of this wireless technology.  It seemed that the Powermat had fallen off the grid after CES, but this all changed during the MLB baseball games on TBS.  The games last night were filled with Powermat commercials and advertised the product being available at Best Buy and Target.  Immediately I hopped onto my laptop and pulled up the Best Buy website and to my surprise the Powermat and the iPhone charging sleeve were both in stock at my local store.

Unfortunately upon further inspection I took note of the $99.99 price for the Powermat and the $39.99 price tag for the iPhone sleeve.  Do they really think I want to mimic the Touchstone that badly, they have to be joking.  In the commercial they show the BlackBerry Bold, Nintendo DS and iPhone 3G all being charged on their unit.  If I were to purchase the Powermat and the appropriate sleeves for all 3 devices it would set me back $199.96 before tax.  Now I still would like to take advantage of the Powermat in the future, but the price point needs to be re-evaluated if they want to move units this holiday season.
