The above image is the latest leak in the rumored T-mobile ‘Project Dark’ advertising campaign scheduled to be announced near the end of October. We first heard word about ‘Project Dark’ a couple weeks ago after HTC announced that they would be bringing their new flagship device, the HTC HD2, to the United States. Immediately following the announcement by HTC, rumors that T-mobile USA would launch the device started spreading like wildfire. So what exactly is T-mobile Project Dark? Well for starters it begins with T-mobile making up for lost time with their 3G rollout by doing a rapid 21Mbps HSPA network launch. With this rapid rollout across major U.S. cities T-mobile will be able to compete with Sprint’s WiMAX service and the the LTE networks being developed by At&t and Verizon Wireless. Next comes the $50/month unlimited plan that will deliver unlimited calling, messaging and voice to any handset offered by T-mobile. The last step is launching top-notch devices like the Behold II, Bold 9700, Motorola CLIQ, Nokia N900 and HTC HD2. The combination of these three goals is ‘Project Dark’ and with a little luck it will help drive T-mobile up from the number 4 position of U.S. wireless carriers. The only hiccup in these rumors is the above advertising which makes mention of two different plans. Maybe T-mobile will offer a $50 plan and a cheaper plan for non-smartphone users who just want unlimited text and voice, you never know.
