It’s no secret that RIM is far behind the curve when it comes to web browsing on the BlackBerry. Even with the newly revamped BlackBerry OS v5.0 I would be lying if I said there still wasn’t a whole lot more to be desired from the browsing experience. Those of you who share my views will be happy to know that RIM is actively looking to develop a WebKit-based browser according to some new job postings from the manufacturer. We knew that RIM had recently acquired Torch Mobile, which is best known for its WebKit-based Iris mobile browser and Web widget platform, but since the acquisition things have been quiet. A native high-quality web browser that is on par with the iPhone OS and Android is looking like a real possibility. In the meantime Opera Mini will have to get the job done my friends.
