The Morning Mobile Minute: N900, BlackBerry OS 5.0, HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Windows Mobile 6.5

We start today with some news that we saw coming, the Nokia N900 has been pushed back to a November release date.  After Reuters reported that Nokia was waiting for more feedback from developers we had a hunch that more work needed to be done, but when you are dealing with a device that is half cell phone half computer it takes time to reinvent the mobile landscape.

Verizon Wireless has officially released OS 5.0.0.328 for the BlackBerry Storm 9530.  This update is available via your BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software for both PC and Mac so you no longer need to run those unofficial OS builds.  If you want another method of locating the new OS you can try http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/ as well.

HTC has launched their new YOU campaign this morning with heavy focus on their Sense UI which we’ve seen on the Sprint HTC Hero most recently.  Besides the site design we noticed last week, HTC has also released several videos on YouTube which showcase the Hero and reinforce the company’s focus, You.  You can see both YouTube videos on HTC’s YouTube channel here.

Nokia has just filed a patent for 3D Multi-touch and it might be coming to a device near you very soon.  The screen will not only detect finger position but it will also detect how much press you are putting on the screen for example pressing hard on the screen to delete a message or soft to scroll a web page.  Now if we could only see a capacitive touchscreen on the N900 we’d be in true smartphone heaven.

The Sprint Samsung Moment is now available for pre order at cellstores.com for $149.99.  This includes free shipping and the promise that your device will ship out on November 2 when the Moment is officially released by Sprint.  The good news here is that it is $30 less than expected and you don’t have to deal with hassle of a rebate form from Sprint.

The HTC Desire (Droid Eris) is now rumored to be landing on Verizon Wireless on November 6th.  This will be the second device in Verizon’s Droid series and features touch-sensitive buttons below the screen, two hardware buttons and a trackball similar to the HTC Hero on Sprint.  We do not expect this device to be announced on October 28th when Verizon and Motorola make the Droid official, but instead shortly thereafter.

And last this morning is news that Vodafone has released their Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the Touch Pro2.  You can download the updater here and be on your way to enjoying some well deserved R&R.  We all know how tiring it can be to wait for your carrier to release an OS update so Vodafone Touch Pro2 owners can now rest well.
