The Morning Mobile Minute: LG, Sprint, BlackBerry, Motorola, Palm

Recently featured in Verizon’s leaked Holiday Line Up, the LG Chocolate Touch is rumored to be released within the next two weeks.  The news comes to us from a Verizon tipster who apparently has the inside track on device release dates.  If you are interested the Chocolate Touch will pack a 3.2 megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. 0, Visual Voicemail and VZ Navigator.

Sprint’s VP of consumer marketing, David Owens, will be available via Sprint’s Live Chat to discuss Sprint’s lineup of new phones this Fall.  The live chat will begin at 12 noon CT on October 29th and will be open to the general public.  Questions will need to be pre-submitted so if you plan on trying to find out when the iPhone or HTC HD2 will be landing on Sprint you better ask now.

Today is the official release date for the BlackBerry Storm2 and the device is now available for purchase in-store or online.  Crackberry has noticed that the new Storm2 9550 is included in the BlackBerry Buy One Get One offer.  If you can stomach the cost of two BlackBerry data plans, it would be hard to argue against two 9550s for just $179.99.

A new Motorola device has been spotted on the WiFi Alliance website.  Rumors are that the device could be either the Calgary or the Zeppelin, but at this point that is complete speculation.  What we know from the certificate is that the product is the MB501 and it is a phone that has both cellular and WiFi connectivity.  Not exactly a full on leak, but based on the MB501 model number it suggests that this device is a higher-end model than the Motorola CLIQ/DEXT.

And last this morning is news from Palm as their stock plunges 23% compared to September 2009. The stock was hit hard today by analyst Tim Long at BMO Capital Markets, who downgraded Palm to “underperform” (the company will not meet expectations). Long stated that he believes, “Android will step up in importance at many operators, which, ex-Sprint, would put PALM in the position of fourth OS (AAPL, RIMM, Android) and sometimes even lower.” Additionally, Long also thinks that the Pixi, due to be released in less than a month, will only provide a modest bump in Palm’s numbers, and at the expense of Pre sales at that.
