After the onslaught of Motorola Droid hype coming from the Verizon camp yesterday, this morning we have a nice and relaxing morning with just a few notable announcements from Nokia, RIM, Orange and Sprint.
Starting things off was a Nokia Press Release to inform us on information we previously announced, the N97 software update 2.0 is available through the Nokia Software Update website (www.nokia.com/softwareupdate). Nokia added to the Press Release by noting that they have sold over 2 million N97s since the device was launched back in September 2009. The Nokia N97 mini was also mentioned in the Press Release and it is now available in Nokia Stores for EUR 450.
Next up we have an announcement from RIM that they will be hosting the Second Annual BlackBerry Developer Conference from November 9 – 12 in San Francisco, CA. The conference will include keynote addresses from all the major players at RIM including Mike Lazaridis, David Yach, Alan Brenner, Tyler Lessard and Mike Kirkup. The conference will also be an opportunity for RIM to announce the winners of the 2009 BlackBerry Partners Fund Developer Challenge.
Following the Verizon Wireless and Google initiative in the United States, Orange has announced they will be the first operator to give customers one-click access to Google Mobile App on multiple mobile platforms in addition to a search widget on the Android platform. This all ties into Orange’s strategic pan-European mobile partnership with Google and reinforces the Orange Signature Android Series: LG Eve (France, Spain), HTC Tattoo (France, UK, Spain) and HTC Hero (France).
Last this morning is news from Sprint who announced they had commenced a tender offer to acquire all outstanding shares of common stock of iPCS, Inc. The offer is a step the next step toward Sprint’s acquisition of iPCS first announced on October 19, 2009. Sprint anticipates that the acquisition will be completed either late in the fourth quarter of 2009 or early 2010.
