At&t files a federal lawsuit against Verizon's 'There's A Map For That' Campaign

A federal lawsuit was filed this morning by At&t charging that the “There’s a map for that” commercials from Verizon Wireless are misleading.  The suit was filed in the Northern District of Georgia, At&t’s home turf, and says the script and captions of Verizon’s commercials are correct and the map accurately describes where At&t’s 3G coverage is available, but the problem is the rest of the map.  Basically At&t is claiming that those white areas on the map suggest that At&t does not offer any sort of service in those locations, when infact it does offer service albeit slower EDGE data speeds.

I can see the point At&t is attempting to make with the lawsuit, but as an At&t customer who currently hovers between no service and 2 bars at my home address I’m actually glad Verizon started the campaign.  Maybe it will be enough for At&t to start pushing out the 3G Microcell in Los Angeles, but in all honestly I put up with At&t service because GSM devices dominate the globe.  If you want access to the latest and greatest devices rather than carrier stricken smartphones you have two choices: T-mobile or At&t.  Seeing as At&t’s 3G network operates on 850MHz and 1900MHz and if a manufacturer decides to release a device with US 3G bands those would be the frequencies, the choice is simple: At&t.  As much as I hate to say it, maybe it’s time the iPhone slips away to Verizon and their network gets a chance to take a beating.  At least that might give At&t a chance to poke fun at the reliability of their network if all current U.S. iPhone owners jump ship to Big Red, just my 2 cents.
